Knowing how to build confidence starts with understanding what causes us to not feel confident in specific situations in the first place.
In this video I’m not going to talk about “tips to improving self-confidence” which only treat the symptoms, I’m going to go right to the root cause and address how to eradicate lack of confidence in the first place.
To keep it simple; in any situation where we’re feeling lack of self confidence imagine that there’s two outcomes. The one we fear the most, and the best possible outcome that we can imagine.
Obviously there’s everything else in between, but let’s focus on the extremes here.

PICK A SITUATION IN YOUR LIFE WHERE YOU LACK CONFIDENCE
PICK A SITUATION IN YOUR LIFE WHERE YOU LACK CONFIDENCE
Now imagine that you had limitless confidence and absolutely zero fear right now, what would you do differently in that situation?
And would you say that those bold results are more likely to yield the best case or the worst case scenario? More likely the best case, right?
Except we don’t have limitless confidence, we have the fear which is stemming from the imagined, worst case scenario… And it’s the fear of the worst case scenario that is creating the lack of confidence.
So if we wanted to completely remove lack of confidence, what would we in theory need to do in order to give us limitless confidence?
We’d need to remove fear around the worst case scenario, right? If we didn’t feel that fear, we’d have limitless confidence, and we’d be totally free to take unlimited action.

IMAGINE THEM AS TWO SIDES OF A COIN
IMAGINE THEM AS TWO SIDES OF A COIN
On one side is what we want, on the other side is what we fear.
Let’s say you wanted to know that you were going to be successful before you start investing money in yourself and your business.
As long as we NEED external reassurance that “it’s going to be OK” (What we want), the more we’re simultaneously fueling the fear of the “worst case scenario” (what we fear).
They’re connected - it’s the fear that’s driving the need for reassurance, which in turn invests us more heavily into needing what we want, which in turn creates even more fear around the worst case scenario, which in turn means that we need more reassurance, which creates more fear. And so on...
In other words, the more we need to know that “it’s going to be ok” before we’ll take any action and start, the more we’re actually fueling the fear of not succeeding - which in turn is the very reason we lack confidence in starting. It’s a vicious cycle that perpetuates itself - both sides of the coin exist because of each other.
The only solution is to fully accept and embrace the thing that’s driving our fear and our lack of confidence in the first place - the worst case scenario. This video goes through how to do that.
