HOW TO BE SELF-AWARE, AND WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT TODAY

HOW TO BE SELF-AWARE, AND WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT TODAY

Knowing how to be self-aware and developing self-awareness is at the core of changing ANYTHING about yourself or your life.

If you wanna create some kind of transformation, or move forwards in some way, you must know your weaknesses and be able to take responsibility for everything that we are and that we create.

To look at yourself through a microscope and accept that we’re not quite the perfect, model citizen that we often see ourselves as, and owning how much we BS ourselves, takes courage.

Which is why we have to tie in self-acceptance, self-compassionate and self-forgiveness alongside self-awareness.

NOBODY'S PERFECT

NOBODY'S PERFECT

And holding onto an illusion that they are, will create a construct of “self” in our own minds that is completely unrealistic and unobtainable.

And as a result of that, we’ll do one of three things:

1. Create stories which explain why we’re “not there yet”, that then keep us trapped as a victim within a construct of reality that we’ve created and that isn’t real.

2. Outright lie to ourselves to fabricate our own version of our reality and create a false, ego-driven construct of self within it.

3. Constantly compare our current self against an impossible version of ourselves, then feel guilty, ashamed, unfulfilled, inadequate etc about who we are (Or more specifically; who we’re not)

MOST OF US LIVE OUR LIVES IN NUMBER 1 OR NUMBER 2

MOST OF US LIVE OUR LIVES IN NUMBER 1 OR NUMBER 2

We don’t take responsibility for much at all, and we create stories that justify things to protect our self-identity. It’s an ego-driven survival instinct, which most humans never see as something separate from themselves.

For example when we shout and someone who annoyed us and then justify it by telling ourselves “Well they should have known that saying that would upset me”, we genuinely believe it’s “I” who is the voice in our head. And we genuinely believe that the reason we shouted at that person is because of what THEY said.

We don’t see that justification as a story that we’ve just made up, to cover up something that we don’t want to face own from our past. Self-preservation’s kicked in and we’ll convince ourselves that it’s “their fault”, and that the reason we got triggered is “nothing to do with us”.

Which is obviously BS, because it’s “us” who got triggered. It’s everything to do with us...

We have to realise that voice in our heads is not us, and the reason you’re upset is absolutely nothing to do with what “they said to you”. You were triggered because of your past, and in that moment you were a victim to your past.

BUT WHEN WE ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY, THINGS CHANGE

BUT WHEN WE ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY, THINGS CHANGE

When we accept responsibility, we take back the power to transform anything and everything.

If it’s “someone else’s fault”, then for anything to change - THEY have to change. And we could be waiting a seriously long time…

If it’s “our responsibility”, then we have the immediate power to do something about it.

But it’s important not to then slip into always comparing yourself against yourself (Which is point 1). I fell into that trap recently, and I’m only just coming out the other side now.

We have to stop comparing, and start “being”. Comparison means you’re not present. Comparison means you’re living in the future or the past. Instead, we’ve got to live from the only moment that we ever have...
